DIY Thursday: Olliblock Coupon Codes

Are you looking for a fun inexpensive gift for your kids for Christmas? Well I give you Olliblocks.

If you are addicted to Pinterest as much as I am you might have seen these adorable blocks flying around. Awhile ago I pinned them as an idea for Christmas gifts for my boys and a few days ago I went to their store to check them out.

SO CUTE! They have a bunch of different styles and they are all cute. To purchase the files to make a set of three (that's 9 blocks) it costs $12. But being the cheapskate I am I went searching for a discount code.

There are a bunch of blogs who have promoted Caravan Shoppe. (Where Ollieblocks are sold.) And all of these sites were given 20% off discount codes. And they still work!! Yay!! It looks like you can use one coupon per item you purchase. So I bought the starter pack and the Zoo booster pack. Originally $24 I got them for $14.40.

Here are a few of the codes I found and the super cute blogs they are from.
http://www.thecoterieblog.com - code - welovecoterie
http://www.sisterssuitcaseblog.com - code - suitcaselove
http://www.doeadeery.com - code - lovedoeadeery
http://frockfiles.com - code - welovefrock

Caravan Shoppe also has their own discounts you can take advantage of.
For 20% off an order of $25 or more, use the code itsaparty.
For 30% off an order of $50 or more, use the code caravanconfetti

Well I hope this helped with some of your holiday stress. Love you all and happy crafting!

Wild Card Wednesday: Christmas gift ideas

The Christmas season is now upon us! It is such a wonderful time to remember our Savior's birth and to give to others. A couple days ago we had a family Christmas party and usually we all bring a little something for each family. Nothing too fancy, just a little something to say hey we love you and appreciate all you do. I got thinking that all these fun gift ideas would be great to share in case any of you readers are looking for some kind of idea for a gift for neighbors, friends, or families.

Gift idea #1

Loaf of bread: We "loaf" you tons!

Gift idea #2

Hand Soap: We "wash" you a Merry Christmas
This is what I gave everyone this year. There is a really cute printable on this site. I was going to use the printable originally, but then realized my printer needs a new color cartridge, so I had to make my own using plain black.

 Gift idea #3

Hot chocolate: Wishing you a "warm" and wonderful Christmas

 Gift idea #4

Hersheys kisses: We wish you a Merry "Kissmas"
You can also put kisses in a whisk and say  We "Wisk" you a Merry "Kissmas"

Gift idea #5

A spatula with a box of brownies or cookies: We "flippen" love you!

Hopefully you like one of these ideas! Have fun shopping and gift giving this Holiday Season!

DIY Book Safe

I try really hard to get people gifts that I know they will love, but there are some people that are harder than others. Like my brother in law. Love the man to death bu the is hard to shop for. So for his birthday this year I stalked him on Pinterest to try to get some ideas. And amid the video games and the pictures of tanks I found this fun idea. Make your own book safe.

DIY Thursday: Zombie Survival Kit

We just celebrated my husbands birthday and after we both became fans of "The Walking Dead" recently I saw this amazing Pin on Pinterest where a father made a Zombie Survival Kit for his son, and decided I had to recreate it for him. Now I had grander plans for this and I have to admit that pregnancy exhaustion definitely got in the way of what I wanted to be the final product but I think it still turned out pretty well.

To start to get Terry (aka the husband) in the Zombie mood I had a bunch of posters made and posted them in his car, at the door as he came home from work and in his room.

Then he found the box. My little men helped me with the final bloody step of creating the box with a little red paint and their hands.

The rest was just a matter of wrapping up some of Terry's favorite treats and creating fun labels for them all.

This is what it looked like when he opened the box.

I found some silly toys at the dollar store and some fake toilet paper that I think really added to the overall theme.

Really you can pick whatever treats you want, I chose stuff like Mt. Dew, snickers bar, cookies, those little boxes of Pop's like you get for the 4th of July, and a few other of his favorites. Just make sure to get a bunch of different shapes, it makes the final product more fun.

And yes I know that defense was spelled wrong. (Well I did after i made it any way.)

Its not shown in the pictures because we were waiting for it in the mail but we also got him this really neat book that takes all things zombie very seriously and makes you wonder if there really might ever be a zombie take over. BE PREPARED!!

Well to finish I really must tell you to check out my original pinspiration because it is amazing and I hope that both of these ideas inspire you to create some zombie fun of your own.

DIY Thursday: Decorative Picture Frame

Just the other day my husband brought this picture frame home for me. Apparently his work will sometimes get salespeople that will come in and they leave little items like this picture frame, metal slinkys, pencils, just a bunch of random stuff for employees. So being a thoughtful man he brought me home the picture frame and a slinky for the kids to play with. This is a great picture frame, but you got to admit it is a little dull and boring. I thought I would spice it up a bit. Decorating picture frames are easy and lots of fun. These are great to do for young womens activities, youth camps, super saturdays, or if you just want to do something fun and crafty!

The frame before:

And after:

Supplies needed:
  • A picture frame ( a wood one works best. I know most craft stores will sell unfinished picture frames)
  • scrapbook paper (You want paper with a small pattern)
  • scissors
  • modge podge
  • paint
  • embellishments (flowers, jewels, ribbon, etc.)

Step 1:
Trace your frame onto your scrapbook paper and cut it out. Make sure the paper is upside down!

Step 2:
Remove the frame glass if it has some and trace the hole. Make sure to pay attention to how your paper is laying so it will look ok when you go to glue it on the frame.

Step 3:
Set the paper aside. Paint only the edges where the frame shows and the scrapbook paper doesn't cover. You will want to use a color that will match up well with your paper. I used black, but could have used white instead if I wanted. Let dry completely.

Step 4:
Glue your paper on by applying a thin layer of modge podge on the frame. Slide your fingers across the paper to make sure to get rid of any bubbles. After that if you want to you may go over the egdes of the frame with some paint VERY LIGHTLY! I think this really makes the paper and its design pop. You can do this using a makeup sponge which I think works best or your paint foam brush. You will want just a little bit of paint on there and you will want to dab it on a paper plate a couple of times in case there is too much paint on there. After that you will just lightly dab the paint along the edges and then let it dry.

Step 5:
Apply a thin coat of modge podge over your the top of  the paper to seal and protect it. Let dry and then put your picture in.

 Step 6:
You could just stop at Step 5 if you want but I like to add a little more to frames by tying on some ribbon at the top. You could also do something like sticking a big flower in a corner or even put a few flowers on. Just experienment, see what looks good with the paper and enjoy looking at your cute new frame :)

Wild Card Wednesday: Exploding Box

Exploding Box

When I first saw this box on Pinterest I was super excited and knew it would make a great Christmas gift, Mothers day gift, Birthday, New Baby or lets just be honest this box rules and was a ton of fun to make. I found a tutorial for it here. The tutorial was really good and super easy to understand. I didn't take as many pictures so if something is a little hard to understand stroll over to Glitter Adventure and check it out.

I made 3 boxes and know I need to make at least 1 more for our house. The kids really do love them. Just tonight my son was pointing out one of the pictures of himself and talking about it. Yes it is April and we still have one in our house it is my mom's fault and I blame her for everything.

Please look at the edges to the page and the wrinkles in the pictures!

Yes the day after I gave my mom this super cute box filled with a ton of family pictures she DROPPED IT yes dropped it in the snow and then watched, allowed, laughed, went home and crashed in bed. Yes she did drop it in the snow from the back of her truck while driving up her steep dirt road. Then during the night it snowed so when the plow cleared the snow in the morning the lid was crushed and the box was buried in the snow. Another day later she found the box again so really the damage done is minimal and I was able to reuse all the pictures but 2.

Wow I really didn't take a lot of assemble pictures sorry but good things we have here for that.
One thing I didn't like about their tutorial is they had the box lid held together with paper clips to dry, but when I tried that it put dents in my lid which is so not cool. So I found just holding the lid together for a few minutes was the best.
The other big issue I had was she used 12x12 paper and then cut it down much smaller so my good friend and I figured out the math to keep it as big as possible so your pictures can be even bigger to enjoy.

I used 4 or 5 sheets of heavy cardstock depending on if I did 3 or 4 layers inside the box. My largest layer matched my lid. and then I used 6-8 pattern papers (2 for each layer)
I am going to put all the measurements on here starting from the biggest and working into the box

The outside of your paper needs to be cut to  11 5/8 Then the square cut outs in the corner measured 3 7/8 from the edge and cut out Pattern paper 31/2
Next layer full paper-11 1/4  Square cut out for the corners 3 3/4  Pattern paper 3 3/8
3rd layer inside her stopping point. full paper 10 7/8 square cut from the corners 3 5/8 pattern paper 3 1/4
Bonus 4th layer full paper 10 1/2 square cut from the corner 31/2 Pattern paper 3 1/8

is it easier if I type
Full sheet-11 5/8. 11 1/4, 10 7/8, 10 1/2
Square cut from the corner-3 7/8, 3 3/4, 3 5/8, 3 1/2
Pattern paper- 3 1/2, 3 3/8. 3 1/4, 3 1/8

I am planning on making many more of these fun boxes! please share your completed boxes on our facebook page so we can enjoy your designs!
