Kid's Boards

I had some friends post that they wished they could have a board that had this saying on it....so being the nice crafty friend that I am, I told them I would make them =)  They got to choose their color combinations and whether they wanted it for boys or girls.  These are super cute to hang in a nursery or kids' rooms.

Wildcard Wednesday: Grinch board

One of my favorite Christmas movies is "How the Grinch Stole Christmas." I love how it demonstrates that Christmas isn't about all the stuff we get. 

So I got a bit creative this year and decided that I needed a board outside for Christmas like I did for Halloween.  But I wanted something unique and not just "Merry Christmas" or "Santa Stops Here." so I designed up the vinyl for this using my Silhouette machine and me a cute new decoration.  I love it and can't wait to put it out.  

And  if wood crafts aren't your forte, I made up this printable for you to have with the same saying.  I used a kit from Leaving a Legacy Designs called "All Wrapped up"

DIY Thursday: Peace Craft from Crafty Wood Cutouts

 Hey everyone it's Tifany! I had the opportunity to do a craft for Crafty Wood Cutouts. For those of you who may not know anything about the store, they are similar to the Wood Creations store that we have done guest posts for before in the past. I enjoyed creating and want to thank Macie at Crafty Wood Cutouts for the opportunity to do a craft.  These guys are located in Orem and have lots of cute unfinished wood crafts.  What you need:

• Scrapbook paper
• Paint that matches your paper
• Mod Podge
• Wire
• Ribbon
• Hot glue gun
• Jewels or any other kind of embellishments

This is what the craft looked like when I first got it: I just needed to sand a few of the edges before beginning to paint and create.

Step 1:  First I traced and cut out my letters on scrapbook paper. You can use sandpaper to file off any excess paper that hangs off the edge of the wood.

Step 2:  Paint the letters as well as the star, and baby manger. The front surface of the letters doesn't need to be painted because that is where the scrapbook paper is going to go.

 Step 3: Apply a THIN layer of mod podge on each letter, doing so one at a time, and carefully place your scrapbook paper on. Smooth out your surface and let dry. It should dry pretty quick.

Here is all the letters with the scrapbook paper on them.

Step 4: Once your mod podge has dried, file off any excess paper that is hanging off. You can use sandpaper or I have found that using a nail file works really well. This is pretty easy.

Step 5: Apply your finishing touches. Apply another thin layer of mod podge over the paper to seal and protect it, curl your wire if you wish and glue it on, glue together the manger, tie on some ribbon, and place on some jewels if you wish. It's kind of hard to tell from the picture, but I also put some glitter on the star and then mod podge over it to seal it. Once you do that you have a cute new Christmas craft!

Wicked Witch Board

Me and my sister like to get crafty together.  One day, she showed me this picture and I knew it was perfect for my Halloween decorations.  It was pretty easy to do.  All I did was get a board ( you can have one cut a Home Depot) or even Joann's has some pre-cut, but use you a coupon. Then I painted it black.  I designed the lettering on my Silouette to fit my size board.  I think my board was around 12x20 but it would work doing it a bit smaller.  Then I just cut it in the different colors of vinyl, but you could do it all one color if you want.  Then Just add the embellishments you want: ribbon, wire, spiders, leaves, glitter, tulle, whatever floats your boat.  These are so easy to customize.  You could do a smaller one to make a door hanger.  If you wanted, you could even cut it out of cardstock or just regular stickers.

Wild Card Wednesday: Summer Door Decoration

I have been MIA on here.  It has been one busy summer.  Sorry ladies.  I will do better I promise. I finally finished a project I have wanted to do all summer.  It was a simple door decoration.  All I did was buy a wood letter S (S for summer and Sherman) from the craft store.  Painted it white.  Let it dry.  Then I applied crackle paint (Which I found next to all the acrylic paints in the craft store.)  Followed the directions for the crackle paint.  Then I painted the teal over the crackle. Finally I added flowers and ribbon and hung it on my door.  I am pleased on how it turned out.  I wish I had done it earlier this summer because I will be taking it down soon to put up my fall wreath. 

Wildcard Wednesday: Weathering Wood

I like to do lots of wood crafts...in case you didn't notice.  Well, the other day, I was making a sign for someone and I had planned on making it look weathered using some stain.  Well....I went to go get my stain and it was gone!!!  GRRRRR!!!!!  If I went and bought stain then it would end up costing more than what I was charging to make the sign.  So I needed to find a way to make wood look weathered, that didn't involve staining or burning.  So I consulted some creative friends and browsed the internet.  I found this idea and figured, what the hey....I'll try it.

It was super easy and I was happy with the results.  (and it is super cheap!!!!)

You get 1 wad of steel wool.  I found the packages of 12 at the dollar store.  Put it in a glass jar and pour in 1 cup of vinegar and let it sit.  I let mine sit for about a day.  You need to give the acid time to breakdown the steel wool.  You won't see the water color change so don't freak and think nothing is happening (that's what I sorta did)

After it has sat, get your supplies together.  Use an old paintbrush. 

Then just paint away.  You won't see a color change right away, but give it a few minutes.

This was my est board before I tried it on the board I was doing my sign. (I didn't want to ruin the good piece)  The far left side was 3 coats, the next was 2 coats, and the little bit on the bottom rightish is one coat.  So you can get this to do varying shades.

Here is my wood.  You can kinda see the patches I missed but it came out pretty dark.  And check out that splatter mess on my table....Here's my advice....put some newspaper down.  I had to use bleach to get it off.

Here is my finished product.  (my missed Patches were covered by ribbon)

This is such a nice, cheap alternative to staining.  The only downside is you have to wait a day for the steel to react and of course you get that lovely vinegar smell.  The smell will fade on the wood after a few days.  And you can still use mod podge on the board and it won't affect the coloring.

Fab Decor: Let it snow, Be Mine

We have some fun stuff from FAB DECOR!! Sorry Melissa I am late getting these up life is crazy :) 

Teresa gaveme some blocks to do =)  I wanted something simple so I just painted 2 of them dark blue, and did some scrapbook paper on the middle set.  Then I found these cute snowflakes and thought they would be a cute addition.  You can't really tell in the picture but I had a little bit of glitter on the blocks as well.  These will make a cute addition to my decorations for that time between Christmas and Valentine's Day.

I decided to put my let it snow onto the back of my cute Christmas set. (forgot to take picture of my Christmas set side and now they are in my attic sorry)
I decided to paint my Christmas blocks white in hopes I could use the backs too :) Because I used a neutral color for the blocks I needed to use paper to spice it up :)

This is my finished project! I know I am missing my BE thanks to my sweet husband and kids it somehow got lost :( But don't worry I am getting a new BE from Melissa today :)

DIY Thursday: Owl Be Your Valentine

I have heard great things about Wood Creations in West Haven and have been wanting to go for a while.  I decided one day after work to go check it out.  Lets just say I wanted to buy pretty much the whole store.  They have lots unfinished wood set that you can paint and decorate.  I got a valentine one. 
Here is what you will need
-"Owl Be Your Valentine" wood kit
-paint
- scrapbook paper
-embellishments
-glue stick
-modge podge
-foam brushes
-hot glue gun
-black sharpie

1. Pick out paper and paint for each peice of wood.
2. Paint the wood.
3. Trace the wood onto the paper you chose.
4. Cut out the traced paper.
5. Use a glue stick to glue the paper to the wood.
6. Apply the Vinyl.
7. Modge podge the paper and wood
8. Let dry
9. Glue on eyes and heart on owl
10. Using a sharpie draw eyes on the owl.
