Wild Card Wednesday: Summer Fun Jars

Summer Fun Jars
Have you ever been lying around on a nice summer day wishing you had a fun idea to entertain your kids???
Yeah, we have too!
JeNae, Teresa, & Emily decided enough was enough!  So we came up with our Summer Fun Jars.  They are chocked full of lots of fun plans to do with the kiddo's this summer.  Some cost money, but many don't.
And of course we had to get a little creative and get our craft on!  Teresa & Emily used old baby formula cans and JeNae used a mason jar.  Whatever you use is perfect!

So we dug out a ton of scrapbook paper & went to town.  We included a clothespin the the front.  The plan is to choose the activity the day before and pin it on the front.  That way the kids know what awesome activity is coming up!

Munchkin Monday: Superman Party

My son LOVES Super hero's! Everyday we have to play Super hero's.
This year for his 3rd birthday we had a superman party. I think the adults had just as much fun watching as the kids did playing.
Decorations for the party:
*I took a picture of my son playing superman and made it into a comic. I drew a comic from the picture i took but you can use photo shop. I took the picture and had it printed on paper. Ogden Blue Print will print them for you on paper they use for printing construction plans.
* I made the kids capes to wear out of t-shirts
you can find a link on how to make them here.

We had super POWERS on food label's so all the super hero's would know what powers they were getting
improves laser vision
wonder dog (for hot dogs)
stronger muscles
fly faster...

I made the superman cake, very easy.
The superman symbol i made out of craft foam and the kryptonite is sugar candy ( I am not going to post the recipe cause it did not taste good but it looked cook)

I colected boxes of all sizes to use for buildings. I used colored duck tape to wrap them in or you could paint them. The widows are tape too.
Display your super hero action figures.
I found a comic book and cut it into triangles to make a banner for a photo corner.
I made some wights out of a wood dowel and two toilets paper rolls and wrapped them in tape.
THEY WERE VERY STRONG!!

We had a friend come dresses as
SUPERMAN!
He was the best superman! The kids loved it. I looked for a superman costume for cheap but had no luck. My mom is AMAZING and she made his costume.(check out the built in muscles)
Superman came to teach the kids how to be super hero's.
 He taught them how to...
 Run fast
We had the kids run all over the house. If you do it outside you could have them run around trees
 Be strong
The kids took turns lifting the weights

To fly
He started out with the kids laying on the ground and then they jumped off the stairs

How to blast the bad guys
We had some action figures that looked like bad guys. I set them up and the kids got to blast them with silly string. I think this was their favorite thing

This is the bad guys after all the blasting. I don't think they are getting away.
 SUPER HERO'S SAVE THE DAY!!

After all the fun and games of learning to become a super hero. superman presented all the kids with certificates and a treat. He also brought the birthday boy a gift. He was so exited and still talks about how SUPERMAN came to his birthday party!

Foodie Friday : Potstickers

I participate in a Freezer Meal Group {with a couple of fabulous ladies from this blog} and a couple of months ago, Emily made these delicious Potstickers.

They were absolutely delicious, and my Husband & I scarfed them down.  I've been joking with Emily that she needed to make me some more, praising her in hopes of getting some more, but for some reason it hasn't worked.  And then I found out that my grocery store sells fresh wonton wrappers, so I bucked-up and made some of my own.

Now this is no quick process.  It takes some time to fill each wrapper & seal it....but it is all worth it!

I'm a healthy gal, so instead of frying this beauties, I cooked them up in boiling water {just like pasta}.  And to make it easier for the family, I tossed them in the sauce instead of having the sauce on the side to dip.

Add some steamed edamame & rice, and you've got the perfect Asian meal!

Potstickers
~recipe from Emily Robertson~

Ingredients {Potstickers}:

·          1 package of wonton wrappers

·          1 cup of thinly sliced & diced Cabbage

·          1 lb of ground Pork

·          2 tsp of minced Ginger

·          1 finely chopped Green Onion

·          1 tsp Salt

·          1 tsp Soy Sauce

·          1 tsp Rice Wine Vinegar

·          1 tsp Sesame Oil

Directions:

1.       In a large mixing bowl, combine all of the ingredients.

2.     Line two baking sheets with parchment paper; fill a small bowl with water.

3.     Take your wonton wrapper, fill with 1 tsp of filling, and then use the water & your finger to wet the edges. Fold over to seal & pinch to keep it closed.  Place on the baking sheet.

4.     Freeze on the baking sheets for an hour or two.  Then either place in a Ziploc bag for further use or cook up.

5.      To serve my way, bring a pot of water to boil, and cook the pot stickers until then start to float.   Serve with the dipping sauce.

Ingredients {Dipping Sauce}:

·          2 Tbl soy sauce

·          2 tsp Balsamic Vinegar

·          2 tsp Brown Sugar

·          2 Cloves of minced Garlic

Directions:

1.       Combine all the ingredients in a bowl & refrigerate for an hour or two; letting the flavors meld together.

2.     Toss with the potstickers, or serve on the side.
