DIY Thursday: Nail Polish Magnets

I have been working on a wall in my kitchen to make a magnetic/chalkboard calender. We decided to do a pretty big wall and with all that magnetic space I knew that I would need more magnets.

So I purchased a big package of 50 small magnets at Michael's. They were inexpensive but not very attractive.

In enters the NAIL POLISH! I wanted to "decorate" the magnets somehow but with nothing over the top. I don't want people to notice the magnets, I just wanted then to look less like magnets...

It was really simple I just set them all down on newspaper, chose my colors and got to painting. While I suck at painting my own nails this was really simple. Dip in your brush and do not wipe it on the edge of your bottle. You want it to "puddle" on the magnet, which will make it easier to spread.

You may even decide to dip your brush again to get a thicker coat. The nail polish automatically rounds off at the edges, and the end product looks almost ceramic. Remember to let them dry for several hours, I let them sit overnight, because of the thickness of the polish.

There are my precious little gems on our newly magnetic wall. Fun right? I will be posting a tutorial about the magnetic/chalkboard wall soon. So keep your eyes peeled. :)

Sweet Tooth Tuesday: Soda Pop Ice Cream

The weather here in Utah has been so hot this summer that we are continually trying to find ways to cool off. It especially doesn't help that I'm 26 weeks pregnant!  One way of beating the heat is eating ice cream, one of my favorite things to do. I LOVE ice cream! Homemade ice cream is even better. Usually we make vanilla ice cream, but I ran across a recipe on Pinterest for some soda pop ice cream and figured we should try making this. I am really skeptical when it comes to homemade ice cream recipes, but I have to tell  ya that this ice cream is really yummy. You can use whatever flavor pop you want. We used rootbeer since my family are HUGE rootbeer fans. I think my husband and daughter could survive of rootbeer! Haha.  Anyways this is a super easy recipe. We are excited to try out more flavors of pop!

Soda Pop Ice Cream:

  • 4 Cups any flavor pop (I used Rootbeer)
  • 1 14oz can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 Cup whole milk
Combine all ingredients together and place in an ice cream maker. Once the ice cream maker stops or slows done your ice cream is done! Take out and enjoy!

***Our ice cream took about an hour in our ice cream maker to be completely hardened.***

Munchkin Monday: Simple Paint Project

This little activity was inspired by Andrew begging to help me with a painting project I am working on in my house. So while I am not willing to let him help paint the walls of my house yet I still wanted my boys to get in on the painting fun. This is nothing ground breaking. It is paint, paper, brushes, and the outdoors.

The boys each picked a color of paint at the store and I picked the white as kind of a neutral contrast.

Yes they are naked. Sorry if that offends. Apparently I need to find a way to make some smocks. :)

Look at my little artists. They had so much fun and it turned out to be a really good lesson in mixing colors too.

And here is whats left of the paint. Explore and create with your kids. Make memories that will last, and then go give them a bath!!!

New designer!

Remember my new obsession?? I can promise you that everyone who talks to me or sees me on a regular basis is getting burned out on this amazing obsession! Well now I am happy to say I have joined 2 creative teams! If you don't do digital scrapbooking that means I work for designers. They make new kits and I get to be one of the first to see and use their products. I make Layouts with their product and post them here on my blog, the store where their items are sold, and other galleries to help promote their products.

One of my designers is Anchored Hearts and her products are at Scrap N Pieces!
