Wild Card Wednesday: Heart Garland and.......

Thanks friends for voting for my heart garland. I love when you all cast your votes and help us find a winner for our challenges. Keep voting for your FAVORITE CRAFT!! I know Valentine's Day is past us but cause I won I am still going to post this challenge and you will all have to just PIN it so you don't forget to use it next year. And if you are dying to make a fun garland with foam for the next holiday coming up well i am going to show you how to make a CLOVER GARLAND!!!!

***Sorry none of the clover pics are edited i will hopefully change that and remove this message  I am not using my normal computer so the programs i use are not on here. Oh ya and the reason all the tutorial pics are of the clover and not the heart...well i might have been a little lazy when making the heart and didn't take any pictures.**

I will give you instructions for the heart garland which is also the same as the clover one :)
cut your strips of foam 3 inches x 3/4 inch you will use 2 pieces for each heart. You will also need hot glue i tried stitching these together, but it was too obnoxious, time consuming and lucky for us the hot glue looks better!
Take 2 strips of foam and glue the ends together. Then fold it over into a heart shape and glue the bottom together! Tada that is all for the hearts.

To make the heart garland you would then glue the sides of your hearts together until you get to your desired length.

The Clover is a little tricky. I took one side of foam for the heart and cut it in half for the stem of the clover. So the stem is 1 1/2  x 3/4. Then i glued the 2 lower hearts on and then after they dried i glued the top ones on.

Here is my little helper hamming it up for the camera!! He squints his eyes when he tries to smile it always cracks us up.

I just took some Dmc floss and threaded it through the side of the heart so that i would hang it from a thumb tack over the top of our doorway. I also thought the clover would look odd just side by side so i made some white circles to separate the green . I just took 1 side of the heart (3 x 3/4) and just glued the ends together making a circle. then i glued 3 together and to the clover.

I tried to take this pic so you could see my cute holiday shelf behind the garland! :)

Sweet Tooth Tuesday: Chocolate Studded Shamrock Cookies

St. Patrick's day is around the corner =)  Everyone likes to do green colored things on that day.  But when you put green food coloring in cookies.....to me it kinda resembles something like what you see when your baby starts eating strained peas.....not the most appetizing thought or visual, I know.  So make something green and pretty by sprinkling it with sugar crystals instead =)  These cookies are something that I like to make every year.  they are fun and festive.

Chocolate Studded Shamrocks:

2 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1 c. butter or margarine, softened
2/3 c. sugar
2 tsp. vanilla extract
2 eggs.
1 pkg. semi-sweet mini morsels (I used regular sized ones and just half a bag to make up for the size)
Green colored sugar

Preheat oven to 375 degrees

Combine flour and baking soda in a bowl.  Cream butter, sugar and vanilla.  Add eggs, one a ta time.  Gradually mix in dry ingredients.  Stir in morsels.  Refrigerate until firm.

Shape dough into 3/4- inch balls; place three together to form a shamrock shape on ungreased baking sheets.  Roll a small amount to form the stem.

Sprinkle the cookies with green sugar.

Bake for 8-10 minutes or until edges lightly browned.  Cool on sheets for 2 minutes then put them on a wire rack to cool.

This cookie dough isn't overpoweringly sweet.  The chocolate chips add enough sweetness and then you sprinkle sugar on it and it's perfect!  Another great thing, the dough doesn't spread too much.  The cookies do get a bit bigger, but they don't spread out (but make sure your dough is chilled or it could spread a bit more....).  I hope you enjoy these and feed them to your little leprechauns this year!

Munchkin Monday: St. Patty's Day Rainbow Salt Art

St. Patty's Day
RAINBOW Salt Art

Our family is always up for a bit of St. Patty's Day fun!
Well I have been notincing the past couple of years that we are seriously lacking in the Green Day decorations.  Well I thought we needed a little bit of fun and family times, so I borrowed this cool salt art idea from the head teacher in the classroom I work in.
Supplies:
*Heavy Cardstock
*Wax Paper
*Liquid white glue
*Salt
*Eye droppers
*Food Coloring
*Water
*Small cups (preferrable disposable)
*Cookie sheet
*A happy, smiling family
You will want to mix about 6 drops of food coloring to 1 Tablespoon of water.  I made 6 different cups of colored water.  I just did all the colors of the rainbow, except Indigo....poor Indigo!  I just didn't feel like mixing the right shade of purple and blue.  I know, I'm lazy.
Place your cardstock on top of your wax paper, an important step step if you don't want to color your table =)
Then make whatever design you want with your glue.
We went with rainbows because we were going for a St. Patty's day theme.
Place your glue covered cardstock on a cookie sheet and sprinkle heavily with salt.
Gently shake the salt off and lay back on your wax paper.
Using the eye dropper, place drops of food coloring onto desired area.  Don't use a ton, because it will spread throughout the salt!
Let dry overnight =)
When it is dry the top layer of salt will crumble off.  Just give it a good shake over the trash can.  I love how the salt sparkles!

Make an amazingly cool "whatever" with them!
I made a mobile for our kitchen.
Super fun and super easy!  And the kids LOVED it!  Mom and Dad did too ;)
