Wildcard Wednesday: Hi I'm New!

Hey all. My name is Leanne Smith and the lovely and very Talented Terrace Girls have agreed to take me on as a guest poster to see if I am up to snuff to join the terrace gang. So hopefully in a month I will be a full fledged Terrace Girl but for now I am just a girl with a dream. A dream to share with all of you out there the pinspired (look I invented a word) and chaotic life I live.
So I am not a particularly crafty person. Like at all. Not a huge fan of ribbons and bows, I don't make any centerpieces for holidays. I would call myself a low budget huge impact crafter. I want the most bang (meaning tons of compliments) for the little buck that I am willing to spend.

I also tend to be a functional creator, I will always go for the idea that will make my life a little easier rather than the wreath that I will take out and use a month out of the year.

I am obsessed with caramel and will choose it over chocolate, peanut butter, or marshmallow any day of the week. (Teresa has been the willing recipient of many of my caramel experiments, and can vouch for me.)

And while I am currently in a house surrounded by boys, my two little monsters and their daddy, I currently am expecting a little girl. (Yay me!!) But I am a little scared. Having gotten very comfortable in the world of cars, trains, dragons, and dirt, I am not quite sure how to transition into bows and tutus. Hopefully being surrounded by these amazing women I will have the strength to find my inner princess, and be able to share with you some of my adventures on getting there.

Can't wait to share more with you and explore myself a bit also in the process.

Fall Wreath-Kayla's first post

Yes we know today is a Foodie Friday, but today we are switching thing up-again! Recently we have had a few of our girls need to leave the blog to focus on other stuff in their lives (which we totally understand and still love them! =)  )  So we decided we needed to add another girl to the mix.  So here is our new addition to the blog!  We are excited to have her and look forward to having lots of fun with her!  She is a super cute and fun girl and we know you will love her as much as we do!

I am Kayla Sherman.  I feel really honored that I got asked to be an author on this blog.  I wouldn’t really describe myself creative or great crafter, cook or do it yourselfer.  I do however enjoy it.  I think that’s what counts right.
I have been married for almost a year to my husband Ben.  We bought a house right before getting married and have spent the last year fixing up it as we have had time and money.  It is still a work in progress but it at least feels like home now.
I have discovered that I really do like to cook and bake.  I hated baking and cooking before I got married because I had to clean up the kitchen to my mom’s standards (Which is hard to do).  I now can clean it when I please and to my own standards.  I am really loving crafting too because I have a house I can decorate.  I also like to bike ride, roller blade and run.  I am an organizer.  I love to have things organized.  I love finding things in my house to organize and make it more efficient and neat (Although my house doesn’t always stay organized because life gets busy).
Right now I am currently a nanny for a 5 month old baby and occasionally these adorable 3 year old twin boys.  I have been a nanny for several other families as well.  Sadly kids grow up and no longer need babysitters.   I love kids.  I am kid at heart.  I love to find activities for kids to do.  I am excited to one day have kids of my own.

When I told my husband that I got asked to be an author of this blog, he suggested I could use this fall wreath I had been working on.  I am really excited about how it turned out.  I got my idea from pinterest.  Which can be found here.  I liked this wreath a lot but it shouted Halloween and I wanted more a fall wreath that I could hang up more than the month of October.

Supplies needed:
-Wire wreath(I found mine at Michaels
-Fabric Scissors
-Patterned fall fabric(I got a yard which ended up being too much)
-Accent colors to match the patterned fabric(I had 5 accent colors and got 1/3 of a yard of each)
-Ribbon (to hang up wreath)

1. I first cut all the fabric up in strips.  I would suggest making the stripes 3/4inch by 6 inches.  Some of my stripes were smaller and they didn't look as good.  I wish I would have made them all the same.  I also cheated by cutting a small snip into the fabric and tore it.  It made for straighter strips and less time consuming.
2. Once all the fabric was cut I began tying the strips onto the wreath.  I wish I would have started with the middle wires instead of doing a section at a time.
3. Once the wreath was filled with the strips I started fluffing the fabric. I decided where more strips were needed.  I found that by pushing the strips together and adding more strips the wreath looked more fluffy and stayed fluffy.
4.  I then took my ribbon and made a loop by tying to the back of the outer most wire, so I could hang it on my door hook.

Hey! I'm Sherri...and

I am Sherri. My husband's name is Nathan, and we have a 4-year old son, Brooklyn. Nathan and I have been happily married for 7.5 years. This...is me!

I am currently attending Weber State persuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts, with an emphasis in Fine Art Photography. I feel like I will NEVER be done with school. In my spare time, I enjoy crafting, cooking desserts, (Nate is the gourmet chef around here. Even though I like to cook regular food, desserts are SO MUCH more fun right??) gardening, reading, music and movies.

This...is Nate. I seriously cannot find a good picture of him. He ducks out of every photo, and hates to get his picture taken! But he loves football, and so I convinced him to let me take this one. Ha ha!

This is Brooklyn, a.k.a. Brooky, Brooky-pants or Brook-ster. He is so fun! He also gets sick of me taking photos of him, so it is a rarity to find one of him where he is not making a silly face. He cracks us up. He is OBSESSED with Batman.Just a little about me. I am so excited to be a part of this blog! I can't wait to get good ideas from all of you, and get to know you all better. I love blogging...this is one of 4 blogs that I have/work on!

Meet Keri

Hello! I am Keri Toponce. I am a second grade teacher turned stay-at-home mom and I LOVE it. My sweet little girl Jackie is the target of all my lesson plans and educational activities. And lucky for me she is a little smarty-pants!
I love to hike, play the piano, and dance my heart out in the comfort and privacy of my basement! One of my favorite things to do is PLANNING. I could sit down and plan anything from dinner menus to learning days and LOVE every second of it!

I may be a fish out of water for saying this, but cooking is not one of my strong points. I am a work in progress when it comes to successfully putting together meals. But I am working on it! I need your help!!!

Trying out a new and successful recipe for pizza pockets

I love all the recipes I have seen on this blog, and all I can see is KEEP THEM COMING!

Intro to the fabulous Trinity Hansen =)

My name is Trinity Hansen.  I have been married since December of 2003 and as a result have brought the 2 cutest kids ever into the world (I don't care what you other moms think, mine are cuter than yours! =)  )  Growing up, I couldn't cook, craft, sew, paint, or do anything remotely creative.  Everyone in my family was blessed with some kind of creative talent, and I used to think that maybe I missed the day in heaven they were handing those out.  My mom tells me that she used to worry that I was going to starve in college because I had a hard time even boiling water.  Then I got married and found out that cooking from a box (or the take-out menu) isn't the best thing to do.  I started dabbling in cooking but not much because I was in school and working full time.  Then I had my daughter and got to be a stay at home mom.  Suddenly, I had a bit more time on my hands.  I started scrapbooking tons more, because with a kid as cute as she was, I had tons of pictures =) I started cooking a bit more, but still not too much because I started working at a daycare.  Then I had my son and got to stay home full time again.  Since then, I have been constantly trying new dishes and treats because for some funny reason my husband and kids think they need to eat a few times a day.  What's up with that?  I am not an expert, by far, but I think most of what I make is pretty good.....I haven't given anyone food poisoning yet =)  Since I've started "exercising" my creative muscles, I'm finding that there are other things that I'm not too shabby at.  Scrapbooking, vinyl lettering projects, cards, etc are a few things that I love to do now.  I am always looking for new ideas and ways to improve and build my arsenal.  I am not the most talented or creative person out there, but I sure have come a long way in the past few years.
After having kids, as most women know, your body doesn't stay the same as before the kids.  I've tried to eat healthier and exercise more so that maybe I can look like I did in high school or fit into those skinny jeans (isn't that the dream we all chase at one point in our lives? =)  ).  One diet that I have followed that has had amazing results for me was Weight Watchers.  So a lot of my diners I have tried to do the calorie/point values fo rthem.  Even though I don't really follow it anymore, I still like to keep tabs on what it is I'm eating.  So a few of my posts may have the approximate point values or tips on how to cut back the calories.  Afterall, the less calories in dinner, the more dessert I
I can have =)

An Intro *Plus* Waffle Cookies

Hi!  My name is JeNae.

Yep.  I can be a goofball in the kitchen when it comes to baking.  Which, by the way, is one of my most favorite things.  Baking, Cooking, and Photography are what keeps me creatively going {and maybe a little crafting on the side}.

Today I thought I would share one of my most favortite cookie recipes.  Want to see????

Bam!

There you go.  One my most favorite cookies I've have had growing up.  These lovelies are my families "Waffle Cookies" {I bet you can't guess why ;) }

These cookies start with a nice fudgy dough......thick and chocolatety.

 Plopped into a hot waffle iron {plopped because of it's thickness}

 And sprinkled with powdered sugar

Lot's of powdered sugar.

And because I have a Belgian waffle maker, my cookies came out thick & big.......but I don't mind ;)

Waffle Cookies
1 Cup of Butter {melted}
4 {heaping} TBL of Cocoa
1 1/2 Cups of Sugar
4 Eggs {slightly beaten}
2 Tsp Vanilla
2 Cups of Flour
  1. Preheat waffle iron
  2. In a mixing bowl combine: butter, cocoa, sugar, eggs, & vanilla.
  3. Slowly mix in the flour; you want a nice thick dough.  Add more or less according to those guidelines.
  4. Spray down your waffle iron & plop down some dough.  Cook as you would any other waffle.
  5. When cooked, place onto a wire rack; let it cool for just a bit; sprinkle with powedered sugar.
  6. Enjoy!
