Munchkin Monday: Homemade Zip-top Baggie Ice Cream!

Want something fun to do with the kids this summer???
How about homemade ice cream???
Takes too long or you don't have an ice cream maker???
Don't worry, I have the solution for you!

Here is what you will need:
-Gallon size zip-top baggies
-Sandwich size zip-top baggies
-Milk (any kind)
-Sugar
-Vanilla
-Rock salt
-Ice

Pour one cup milk, 1/2 teaspoon vanilla and 2 tablespoon sugar into your sandwich size zip-top baggie.
Zip it up tight and get as much air as you can out.
place it inside of your gallon size baggie and a couple Tablespoons of rock salt and fill it up with ice.
Then go to town!
Squeeze, squish, shake those baggies until your milk mixture thickens.  This might take awhile.  My kids' hands got cold so we let them wear oven mitts and that worked pretty well.  We also laid it on the grass and kneaded it.  Just get creative ;)

Make sure when you are done to rinse off your smaller bag so the salt doesn't get into your yummy dessert.

This makes it a soft serve so don't expect it to get too hard!
I also use skim milk just because that is what I always have on hand but for creamier ice cream use different milk, or even half-n-half.

Get creative!
Add different ingredients to your milk mixture before to make different flavored ice cream.
Add:
-Frozen berries
-Chocolate syrup
-Crushed up candy bars
-Peas & carrots (Ha ha!  Just kidding!)
-Whatever your fantastic self desires =)
