Munchkin Monday: Goop, Slime, Gak, Goo, Fart Putty

 My kids love getting that fart putty and slime stuff at the stores.  It keeps them entertained for hours.  while perusing the world of Pinterest, I came across a ton of recipes for this stuff.  Especially since it is getting closer to Halloween and gross slimey things are popular.  I decided this would be fun for my kids to try and make.  So make it we did.  =)

Ingredients:
1 teaspoon Borax powder
1 1/2 c. water, divided
4 oz. (or 1/2 cup) Glue, you can use white or clear and you can be a cheapskate and use the no name brand stuff too =)
food coloring
glitter optional but it somehow it makes it not so gross for girls)

Fill a small bowl or measuring cup with 1 cup of water and add 1 teaspoon of Borax powder. 

Mix until the Borax is dissolved and set aside.

Pour glue into a medium mixing bowl and add 1/2 cup of water.  Add your food coloring....be careful when you let your 3-year old add his color or he will put the entire thing in......

 Stir it up a bit and add a bunch of glitter. 

Now add the Borax mixture to the glue mixture and watch it begin to solidify--cool!

Stick your hands in and and start mixing it all up. The more hands the better.  make sure you start mixing right away and don't let it sit or it will just make glue clumps and not slime....I had to redo my little boy's because he wasn't mixing it right away  (but what can you expect from a 3 year old....he just had fun getting messy)  At this part, I would highly recommend putting down newspapers to minimize the mess.

Knead the mixture until it becomes more firm and no longer sticky (it will still feel wet but will slide off the hands instead of sticking)

Store in Ziploc bags when not being played with and it will last for a long time....at least until you get sick of cleaning it up and then throw it in the trash =)

It should the consistency that it spreads, but isn't sticky.  If you don't want to worry about staining, you can skip the food coloring.  It does stain hands while you are mixing it but it doesn't while playing with it. Also, since it contains borax, don't let your pets or children eat it or it will make them really sick.  Make sure you have them wash their hands after playing and then wash any surface they play with it on that may come in contact with food.  I don't think it would do much harm, but better safe than sorry, right?
